The temple is famous for being associated with two legends of Hindu mythology. One legend says that the temple was built when Sage Kutsamuni performed his penance so as to pray to Lord Srinivasa to bring back to life four maidens (devotees of Lord Srinivasa) who were killed by an elephant called Kari.

Mahadevapura shooting spot:
It is a serene and lusg green field and has a dam called mahadevapura dam which is famous for film shooting and is very close to mysore. A drive throuth this place and you can visit the famous #karighatta temple also called as TIRUPATi in Karnataka and has historic and mythological significance along with the presence of lord srinivasa himself.
