Instant Rava idli

Instant Rava Idli, Most of us want to have different items for breakfast everyday. Although idli and dosa is all time favourite of many, idli's and various varieties of it are prepared and served. One such quick and popular idli preparation is Instant Rava idli, prepared from Rava or Semolina (Medium sized.) Many brands also have this instant one ,ready to cook ones but it is so easy and can be prepared in a jiffy at home even without much of preparation done. Just with curd or buttermilk it can be mixed and soon hot tasty idlis will be on your plate.

Ingredients:
Rava - Medium one or Bombay Rava-1 cup
Baking soda- 2tsp
Oil- 2 tbsp
Salt
Mustard seeds- 1 tsp
Urad and channa dal mix- 2tsp
Dry fruits- Cashew and raisins
Coriander leaf
Curry leaves
Curd/buttermilk- 2 cups.
Method:
  • Take a pan, add oil and allow to heat. Add mustard seeds and allow to splatter and then add urad dal and channa dal - 2tsp, curry leaves chopped, and to hot oil add baking soda and then add rava and mix.fry for 3 min and them put the flame off and just allow to cool.
  • You can add salt and coriander to curd/buttermilk and add 2 cups of it to rava mixture we just prepared.

  • Mix and check the consistency , it should not be too tight nor too flowy.
  • If the mixture is allowed to stay it will harden and become tight, so keep the idli cooker ready with boiling water before mixing curd to rava, keep idli plates smeared with oil and keep  it ready
  • As soon as the batter is prepared, transfer it to idli plate and garnish with raisins and cashews and place the plates in cooker and steam at high flame for 3-5 min and put to flame to low and steam for 2- 3 min more . Put the flame off .Allow to cool for a while before deplatting idli.
  • Serve with coconut chutney and eat while hot with a dollop of butter.
  • If you wish to you can add carrot, beetroot grated along with ginger, chilli for masaledar idli
