Veg Pizza Recipe|How to make Pizza from scratch

Pizza is some thing which most of rave about and crave for . Most of us just love to eat it. although at times we hear that it is not very healthy, we don't mind eating it. Off late we can find that most of the restaurants whether fancy or just the corner cafe sells pizza of various flavours and sizes and many varieties of toppings.We can easily get pizza base and the sauce easily in the supermarket or grocery store just near your home.

Inspite of its easy availability we can also prepare it at home from scratch, that is from making the base to preparing the sauce to baking it in the diy oven if you do not have a oven or in a oven itself.

Here i have prepared the pizza base from active dry yeast and it can also be prepared with just the baking powder and baking soda .  I will write a separate blog or try to add the recipe here itself soon.

Method of preparation:
Ingredients:
For the base of pizza:\

  • Active dry yeast- 11/2 tsp
  • warm water- 1/2- 3/4 cup
  • Sugar - 1tsp
  • wheat flour /all purpose flour- 2 cups
  • salt
  • oregano/ pizza mix herbs
  • Water at room temparature - Q.S
Let us mix the sugar in warm water. Remember to take warm and not hot water. sugar adds as  food to the yeast. now add active dry yeast and mix and keep it aside yeast will allow fermentation and will help the dough to rise and fit for baking.Allow yeast to froth up for 10 min. After 10 min check if it has frothing and continue further . 

For dough take a deep mixing bowl and add the flour. You can use wheat flour to avoid the refined flour or take them in 1:1 ratio like i have done here.Add in salt and oregano and mix all the dry ingredients well and then add the yeast water little at a time and knead slowly. finally add normal water and knead really well to get a firm dough . Add water little by little.drizzle oil and allow proofing for 2 hrs where the dough is kept closed with a damp cloth or in cling wrap the mixing bowl.

After 2 hrs it would have doubled or tripled in size and then knead again and make the base as you desire . thick orthin or medium thick crust.This dough can also be stored in fridge for future use.

For pizza Sauce:onion- 1 medium
  • Tomatoes-4-5 
  • salt
  • kashmiri chilli/red dry chillies
  • salt
  • oregano
  • salt
  •  sugar
  • garlic cloves -10-12

Cook onion and tomato with garlic,salt and dry chillies. you can cook in microwave also. cool and blend to a fine paste. Remove the seeds of tomato as much as possible while chopping To the blended paste add chilli powder,sugar, salt, tomato ketchup,pizza mix herbs,pepper as per taste to enhance its taste and get a strong pizza flavour.
cool keep aside.

DIY oven:

  • Kadai/cooker
  • plate/ lid
  • salt
  • stand
  • Baking tray/plate

preheat kadai of appropriate size with salt at the bottom and keep a stand above it. allow preheating to allow the pizza to cook. Preheating should be done for 10 minutes atleast Just as we heat the tava before making roti, dosa etc this process is mandatory.Close the lid while preheating.

To prepare pizza toppings:

  • Dough base
  • pizza sauce
  • tomato ketchup
  • Mozarella cheese
  • chilli flakes
  • salt
  • oregano
  • mixed vegetables- oinion,tomato,capsicum,corn,babycorn,mushroom,olives,jalapenos
  • olive oil for brushing
  • flour for dusting.

Take the baking plate or tray.
Now smear it with oil and dust with flour. Take the flattened pizza base on baking tray/plate.Now spread pizza sauce over it.Then spread tomato ketchup .Add grated Mozarella cheese all over , add chilli flakes,oregano,salt to taste.

Now add the veggies as per your choice . I have shown the basic veggies only with you can make the pizza.spread the veggies and again grate the cheese over it and finally drizze olive oil to prevent dry pizza.

Baking pizza:

Now place the pizza with toppings in preheated oven for 12-15 min in high flame and close the lid. allow to  bake and after 15 min see if the crust turns golden brown.turn off the flame. Take pizza out slowly and cut and serve hot.
Delicious cheesy and veggie pizza is ready.!!
